What is SEO and How does it help Small Businesses?
SEO is an acronym that stands for Search Engine Optimization. Search Engine Optimization is a part of your small business’s digital marketing strategy to be successful online. SEO focuses on improving your website’s ranking within the search results pages (SERPS). By increasing your ranking (position) in the search engines the chance of driving more quantity and quality visitors/traffic to your website improves. To achieve this, search engine optimization involves a set of tactics and techniques that optimize your website and make it easy for search engine spiders to crawl, index, and rank your website.
To answer the question what is SEO differently, SEO is the art of helping your website rank higher in the Search Engine Result Pages than the competition within the unpaid section. The SERPS include organic (free listing) and paid listings (Sponsored Links in Google). Search engine optimization makes you Web Pages readable (crawler-friendly) for the search engines such as Google, Bing, Yahoo, Opera, Baidu, Yandex, DuckDuckGo, Yippy, and WebCrawler. The search engine optimization tactics and techniques are constantly changing as a result of Google and other search engines modifying their built-in algorithms. However, search engine optimization will always involve Off-Page SEO along with On-Page SEO actions.
What is the Difference between On-page SEO and Off-page SEO?
There is a major difference between On-page SEO and Off-page SEO as follows:
- On-page SEO: On-page SEO involves the manipulations you make directly to a web page to enable higher ranking for the keywords that you are targeting. The foundation of On-page SEO involves optimizing the content and HTML code of your website. However, overall content quality, page performance, and content structure also impact your position in the search rankings. On-page SEO deals with the basic search engine optimization tactics such as using keywords in your content, internal linking, as well as optimizing the meta description, HTML code, title tags, alt tags, etc.
- Off-page SEO: Off-page SEO refers to all the SEO practices which take place outside your website to raise the credibility, ratings, and ranking of your site. Off-Page SEO deals with all the webpage rank factors of your website like backlinks (from other websites), link relevancy, social signals, and others. Social media plays an important role in Off-Page SEO. Social signals refer to a webpage’s collective shares, likes and overall social media visibility as perceived by search engines.
Both on-page and off-page SEO aim to make your site more friendly and trustworthy to the search engines and website visitors.
